Petition Action

Require EV charging points at commercial properties be accessible to the public

Petition Details

Require by law any Electric Vehicle charging point on a commercial property such as hotel, restaurant, supermarket, gym, etc be accessible to the public.

Accessible should be interpreted as available to use, but not necessarily free of charge (either for the electricity or the use of service).

Additional Information

As we move closer to the phase out of fossil fuel vehicles, it is becoming more important for the U.K. to develop it’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

As more commercial businesses look to installing EV charging points to attract business from EV drivers, working to make this infrastructure available to the wider public will help with the transition to electric and will make owning an EV more convenient to the general public.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions must call for a specific action that the UK Government or House of Commons is responsible for.

Decisions about access to private EV charging points are a matter for individual companies, not the Government or House of Commons.

As a result it is not possible for the Government or House of Commons to take the action you have requested.
