Introduce legislation to create mechanism for the voters to dissolve Parliament
Create a mechanism whereby the voters, perhaps by means of a petition, can force a General Election without waiting for the next scheduled one.The threshold can be set to discourage vexatious acts, and it could be only valid within a certain window, say not within a year of the last or next election
Our system of elections called when the Prime Minister of the day — supported by Parliament since the FTPA — decides when a General Election can be called has failed. Current events such as the Energy Crisis, the Food Crisis, and the Fuel Crisis, and past events such as the Withdrawal Agreement Crisis prove that. If the government is failing, the People should be able to recall it mid term rather than waiting two or three years for the next scheduled election or the Prime Minister’s whim.
