Petition Action

News outlets should face heavy fines for inciting nationwide panic

Petition Details

To discuss the accountability of all UK news media outlets, guilty of causing nationwide panic/hysteria through irresponsible and misleading reporting.

And the possible use of heavy fines to avoid media created situations in the future that are harmful to the day to day running of the UK.

Additional Information

Recently we have witnessed a media created fuel crisis, news outlets reporting a shortage of fuel at some petrol stations.
Despite informing the UK not to panic, the damage was done.

Refineries and business insiders tried to reassure the public there was enough fuel for all, while most news sources had reporters reporting from forecourts nationwide exacerbating the situation to epidemic levels.

The government should have the ability to impose heavy fines on news outlets that incite mass panic.
