Petition Action

Fine the media for creating panic buying of petrol and diesel

Petition Details

I would like the media brought to book over the way they have created a fuel crisis, made everyone go out to buy fuel by stating that BP have closed a handful of garages. It made the public panic and has blown the whole situation into a crisis and gridlocked roads!

Additional Information

I would like them to be fined heavily, thus stopping them creating panic buying on the future

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We understand that you are concerned about the recent panic buying of fuel, but fines can only be levied where an organisation has breached a law for which there are financial penalties.

If you are concerned about recent media coverage of fuel shortages you could also report these to Independent Press Standards Organisation, the independent regulator of most of the UK's newspapers and magazines: www.ipso.co.uk/
