Flood prevention coupled with potential hydro power

A simple solution to the problem of inland flooding, coupled to a new push on renewable energy would be, radically and continually, to dredge all inland waterways - as in traditional practice - and at the same time, positively to encourage landowners to construct what would become a vast network of micro-hyrdopower schemes along those water-courses.
This would prevent the huge destruction of homes, businesses and transport through flooding, as seen in recent months - and years - and at the same time, easily meet the Country's Green Energy targets.
