Petition Action

Change the current Public Health England guideline for immunisation procedures

Petition Details

Change the current guidelines as detailed in the 'Immunisation procedures: the green book, Chapter 4 - Injection Technique' so that aspiration of the syringe is recommended after the needle is introduced into the muscle.

Additional Information

Recent research carried out in the US has provided in vivo evidence that inadvertent intravenous injection of COVID-19 mRNA vaccines may induce myopericarditis. Consequently, brief withdrawal of syringe plunger to exclude blood aspiration may be one simple way to reduce such risk.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions must call for a specific action that the UK Government or House of Commons is directly responsible for.

Procedural and clinical decisions about public health guidance on immunisation are an operational matter for Public Health England, not the Government or House of Commons.

As a result the Government or House of Commons is not directly responsible for the action you have requested.
