Petition Action

Crack down on non-competitive extremely expensive restaurants like nusret in U.K

Petition Details

Implement casino style taxation on restaurants that charge excessive amounts for food. Uk banks have a duty to ensure the population spends there funds appropriately the government should have the same duty to make sure retailers and restaurants do not over price items and follow competition laws

Additional Information

This type of profiteering will only encourage other restaurants to also increase prices of simple goods and simple food causing the daily working wage to be useless in this country.

Implement laws where restaurants will require to justify why they are selling items for extremely large costs compared to the rest of the market

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you are concerned about hospitality businesses and retailers that charge high prices, but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.

It is up to individual businesses to set their prices, and setting these higher than other similar businesses is not inconsistent with competition law. You can find out more about competition law here: www.gov.uk/topic/competition/competition-act-cartels

We could accept a petition calling on the Government to create new taxes for certain businesses, but it would need to be clear how you wanted this tax to be imposed.
