Petition Action

Make it unlawful for protestors to obstruct any road within the UK.

Petition Details

I would advise the government to allow the Police the power to move protestors to the nearest point of safety. If this fails the Police should be able to charge said protestors with disturbing the peace.

Additional Information

I would like this to happen because I feel the UK has enough problems without a select few disturbing and upsetting the masses. Protesting should be done in a more peaceful and intellectual manner.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The 'wilful obstruction' of a road is already a criminal offence under section 137 of the Highways Act 1980, and the Act grants the police the power to require anyone obstructing 'free passage' on that road to leave. You can read this section of the Highways Act here: www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1980/66/part/IX/crossheading/obstruction-of-highways-and-streets.
