Scrap the vacant seat scheme and allow every child to have a paid seat
To scrap the vacant seat scheme for Worcestershire schools
At the moment Worcestershire county council supply a bus service for children who go to an out of area school. You have to apply for this under the vacant seat scheme, unless your child is entitled to free bus.
If your child has been given a vacant seat then you pay for your seat, however at any point that seat can be given to a child that is entitled to a free seat which means your child goes back on a waiting list and therefore has to find alternative travel.
This scheme is not working and we are finding more children being let down by this system as more and more families rely on this system to get there child to and from school as they are unable to get them there due to work commitments.
