Petition Action

Require licensed venues to introduce anti-spiking policies, and fund training

Petition Details

The Government should:
- require licensed venues to introduce dedicated policies to tackle drink spiking and comply with local authority requests e.g. CCTV
- require local authorities to revoke the licenses of venues which fail to do so
- fund training for venues on how to spot and stop spiking

Additional Information

Spiking, in which drugs or alcohol are covertly added to another person's drink in the attempt to inebriate them, is a serious crime that surely violates the Licensing Act and licensing objectives and the expected safety of individuals within their care. Funding must be made available for training for venues and their staff to undertake training on how and when to spot spiking, and recognize their responsibility in assisting with medical support and police prosecution of the offender. Victims must have the agency to report venues which do not follow these objectives.
