Reward early tax returns
Every 31 January there is a rush to beat the HMRC deadline of filing tax returns on time or facing a £100 fine.
Why doesn't the Treasury reward early submissions - £100 for 3 months early, £50 for one month early for example to spread their own load. The rewards could be financed from the fines.
Surely the whole system would become more efficient and reduce the overall number of staff needed as the workload would be more evenly spread through the year.
