Change the rules regarding cherished number plates
Let buyers who have lost their cherished number plate rights due to not putting the number on a car or retention pay the £25 fee like before .
Dvla changed the rules regarding cherished number plates . It was always £25 fee for each year . You could just pay the back years without any problems. They changed this to a 10 year automatic retention march 2015 without yearly fees . This was great if you new about the change but not great if you wasn't made aware . So many people have purchased cherished numbers for investment or for children when they reach a certain age who have now lost all rights . The plates are now lost for ever

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We understand that you are concerned about rules regarding retaining licence plates, but we're not sure if you want these rules to be changed going forward, or if you want people who have lost rights to use licence plates to be able to regain these (and how this would work where a licence plate has already been reassigned).
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
