Additional Information

I am petitioning for the reinstatement of the right to bear firearms and the legalisation of handguns in line with the following statement:

"The right to own and bear firearms for all citizens deemed suitable to do so, shall be granted for such reasons as self defense, recreational and defense against enemies to Britain both foreign and domestic."

The threat to the UK is ever changing and is becoming constantly harder to mitigate against. Terrorism is taking new forms and attacks on government infrastructure are becoming a less likely feat due to the current investment the government has in homeland defense.

Soft target, public attacks (such as the Lee Rigby killings) are an easy way to spread terror. We, as the British public are currently defenseless and too reliant on the government for protection. This petition is attempting to change that and grant the right to self defense through the use of firearms both in the home and out, to all British citizens.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

There's already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue.

You are more likely to get action on this issue if you sign and share a single petition.
