Disallow MPs from having second jobs, paid or unpaid
Banning MPs' second jobs will not lead to a smaller pool of candidates, it will lead to a more dedicated and diverse one.
I propose a change in the rules to disallow MPs from having second jobs, paid or unpaid, so that MPs cannot unduly leverage their priviledged positions for personal gain.
Exceptions could be made for key proffession (eg. frontline NHS roles) via allocated ‘volunteering days’ to keep their skills updated.
This change will weed out MPs who are 'hogging' their seats or who have ulterior motives.
MPs do not need to be paid for media articles while in office. Putting your view across to your constituents is part of the job, anything else a bonus.
80k+ might be a pay decrease for some, it is still 3X the average of the public they represent.
