Petition Action

To allow NHS Phlebotomists to place cannulas in Patients.

Petition Details

Phlebotomists In the NHS are currently treated as non-medical and as such they are unable to insert cannulas into patients. Doctors, student doctors and nurses all try and fail a number of times, this causes damage to patients veins and added stress on the patient.

Additional Information

To allow the Phlebotomists to become medical and thus allow them to place cannulas into patients will speed up infusions, less delays, less wasted needles and most importantly less stress and healthier patients.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions must call for a specific action that the UK Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.

Decisions about who is able to insert a cannula are a matter for the NHS and relevant professional medical bodies, not the Government or Parliament.

As a result it is not possible for the Government or Parliament to take the action you have requested.
