Scrap Sunday Trading Laws

Petition Details

Given the impact Covid has had on the retail industry, as well the increasing demand for more flexible working hours, it is logical to permit larger shops to open per hours of their choosing like smaller shops do. This would act to boost the economy as shops can open for longer hours on Sunday.

Additional Information

On Sundays, large shops may open for no more than 6 continual hours between the 10am-6pm period. Contrastingly, there are no such rules for smaller shops (under 280 square metres).

Covid has had a serious impact on many sectors, including the retail industry, so the flexibility provided by scrapping Sunday trading laws would enable the industry to regain a more solid foundation. It would also cater more to those working on different schedules due to the pandemic.
