Revoke the changes to Clause 9 of the 'Nationality and Borders' bill
Please revoke the changes to Clause 9 of the bill - “Notice of decision to deprive a person of citizenship”
Government is now exempt from giving notice to an individual before revoking citizenship without their knowledge.
The changes offer an individual little chance of appeal.
It is against international law to deprive a person of citizenship.
The amendments to the clause to strip a persons citizenship without notice were not debated in parliament. The amendments were snuck in.
These changes may disproportionately affect people from ethnic minorities, so are potentially racially discriminatory in nature.
An individual should be given enough time to make a legal challenge in a British court of law before any decision to revoke citizenship is made.
