Provide more integrated healthcare and education to protect children
To help protect children, the Government should further integrate healthcare and education by:
- Adding lessons to the secondary national curriculum on parental responsibilities and basic skills such as cooking nutritious food on a budget
- Delivering compulsory dietary & dental checks in schools
In the year ending March 2019, there were over 227,000 child abuse offences recorded by the police in England and Wales, and research suggests that mounting pressures due to the pandemic have contributed to a further increase in such cases. More integrated healthcare and education could help break this cycle through better communication and multi-agency working between education and public health professionals.
