Petition Action

Establish a parliamentary committee to develop steps to combat tool theft

Petition Details

Establish a parliamentary committee to develop practical steps to combat tool theft onsite and from vans, in consultation with key stakeholders (police, law makers, van and tool manufacturers, insurance companies, society leaders).

Additional Information

Tool theft is a huge and growing problem.

Since April 2021 £46 million pounds worth of tools have been reported as stolen across the UK. That is £245,000 worth of tools every day.

Data from some polices forces show that only around 1% of stolen tools are ever recovered, and virtually nobody is convicted.

Although it is easy to count the cost of stolen tools, it is much harder to calculate the loss of earnings of builders and tradespeople and the impact on the mental health of victims.

Despite the situation very little is being done.
