Petition Action

Track and hold accountable sources of leaks of sensitive information

Petition Details

Any content considered leaked, which has been marked as for internal eyes only or sensitive should be thoroughly investigated via an independent, neutral group. Those responsible for leaked content should be held accountable if any parliamentary rules or laws have been broken.

Additional Information

Not many days go by without some headline referencing leaked content some of which is assumed to be sensitive and not yet intended for public knowledge. If an individual leaked sensitive information about a company they work for there are consequences or in some cases is illegal. Leaks from any elected official regardless of political affiliation should be thoroughly investigated and those responsible held accountable to avoid future security incidents.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. Breaches of the Official Secrets Act are already illegal. Enforcement of this is a matter for the police and prosecuting authorities.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
