Run background checks on anyone taking on children, regardless on their relation
The government needs to take further action on running background checks when adults take on children, regardless of their relation to the child.
Anyone can harm or abuse a child. By not running the correct checks, children could easily fall into the hands of abuse from aunts, uncles, grandparents and other close relations. At the current moment, close relations don’t need checks when taking on children.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We understand that you are concerned about existing checks on people taking children into care, but we're not sure exactly what checks you want local authorities to be required to conduct. It's also not clear if you want these arrangements to apply to biological parents, or only other persons taking on the care of a child.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
