A full Police investigation into allegations of Christmas parties at No 10

Petition Details

There are numerous media reports suggesting No 10 Downing Street breached Covid rules by having Christmas parties during lockdown. No 10 state all rules were followed, but if it was a Christmas Party this would have been against the rules.

A full investigation is needed.

Additional Information

The Covid restrictions in late 2020 meant that a great many people did not see their families during the period. For some, that may have been the last opportunity to see their loved ones at a Christmas.

Others who did break the rules were fined and the Home Secretary was urging people at the time to report rule breakers to the Police.

These rules should have applied to all and Government should not be exempt from investigation

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions must call for a specific action that the UK Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.

Decisions about investigating alleged offences and prosecuting these are a matter for the police and Crown Prosecution Service, not the Government or House of Commons. As a result it is not possible for the Government or Parliament to take the action you have requested.

The Prime Minister has asked the Cabinet Secretary to establish all the facts regarding allegations about a Christmas party at Downing Street last year and to report back as soon as possible: hansard.parliament.uk/commons/2021-12-08/debates/DB36FDA8-C784-4AEE-8D0C-F95FBB5345E9/Engagements#contribution-31179ABA-6AD2-4698-88CA-1817AB77E677
