Bring back single award GCSE Science.
Currently GCSE students only have the option of taking individual GCSEs for Physics, Biology and Chemistry, or a double award (taking two GCSEs) covering all the sciences. We believe students should be given the option of a single award Science GCSE.
We believe requiring all students to take two or three science GCSEs reduces the time available to study other subjects, such as additional Maths, English or vocational and creative subjects. Current options provide little common ground with entry level qualifications.
A single award Science GCSE, with less content than dual or current single award GCSEs, for each science subject, could be more suitable for students of lower ability, or those who have missed school due to ill health or other reasons.
