Petition Action

Vets to list serious & detrimental hereditary diseases impacting each dog breed

Petition Details

A government appointed panel of independent vets producing this list of the most serious and detrimental disease will bring clarity for both puppy buyers & breeders. Including it in the AW Regs will help LA inspectors know what certificates to see during inspections.

Additional Information

Puppy buyers will know which health certificates to see prior to buying a puppy, reducing the chance of heartache & the financial burden of living with a family member with a chronic condition.
The list will help breeders know which tests they must perform prior to breeding enabling them to consider, whilst still maintaining genetic diversity, the results alongside temperament & conformation in their breeding program resulting in fewer pups in the future being born with hereditary diseases.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you are concerned about dogs having hereditary diseases, but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. Your petition refers to producing lists of hereditary diseases and adding thee to animal welfare legislation, but it's not clear exactly what changes you want to be made to animal welfare legislation, and whether you want these changes to create new requirements for breeders, or anyone else.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
