Petition Action

Ban the infinite scroll.

Petition Details

Banning the infinite scroll is included in the proposed Social Media Addiction Reduction Technology (SMART) Act in the USA. Studying this act will further inform the importance of this petition. It is at the heart of fuelling social media addiction, taking choice away from the user.

Additional Information

I do not need to list all the negative externalities of social media addiction as they are well known and easy to research. Mental health has been disregarded in history and it is time to act to now. It is also a very simple bill, causing little ‘effort’ for companies to change.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions must call for a specific action that the UK Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.

Decisions about how users navigate websites are a matter for website designers, not the Government or Parliament. As a result it is not possible for the Government or Parliament to take the action you have requested.
