HGV insurance caps or help to allow more companies to take on new pass drivers.
Many smaller companies although short of HGV drivers are unable to take on new drivers due to the insurance premiums associated with hiring new pass drivers. The government needs to do something about these insurance costs to allow more smaller companies to take on new drivers.
With the UK driver shortage causing multiple supply chain issues due to multiple factors the government is investing heavily in training new HGV drivers. Unfortunately many smaller transport companies struggling to find drivers are having to turn down new pass drivers as the insurance companies are unwilling to insure them or their insurance premiums are simply too high. Caps on premiums or help with the cost of insurance will allow smaller companies to hire new drivers and remain competitive.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions must call for a specific action that the UK Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.
Decisions about the price of insurance are a matter for insurance companies, not the Government or Parliament. As a result it is not possible for the Government or Parliament to take the action you have requested.
We could accept a petition calling for the Government to take some action to support businesses to take on newly qualified HGV drivers, but it would need to be clear what action you want the Government to take.
