Petition Action

Lower the minimum driving age to 16 for children of disabled adults

Petition Details

Allow children of parents who are disabled and receive benefits such as Personal Independence Payment (PIP) to drive from the age of 16.

Additional Information

Many people who are disabled struggle to drive at times due to various reasons. This leaves many adults vulnerable. It can also leave their child/children unable to be driven to school or other important appointments.

You can drive a car when you are 16 if you get, or have applied for, the enhanced rate of the mobility component of Personal Independence Payment. The proposal of this petition would help families where the disabled person is unable to drive, either permanently or occasionally.
