Abolish the position of Metro Mayor (also known as Combined Authority Mayor).
The undersigned want the Government to abolish the position/office of regional Metro Mayor's.
The undersigned wish for the position to be abolished as the tax payer sees very little in return for the increased cost. Turnout at Mayoral elections has been low and there is no interest in having a Metro Mayor in the areas which have had one forced upon them.
There is no reason why a Combined Authority cannot function without a Metro Mayor as the individual Council Leaders of the local authorities can govern the Combined Authority between themselves.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Any decision on whether to retain a Metro Mayor for a particular Combined Authority is a matter for the people living in that area, not the UK Government or Parliament. This means that the UK Government is not directly responsible for the action your petition calls for.
If you wish for the office of Metro Mayor to be abolished in the Combined Authority area in which you live, you could raise this with a local councillor who represents you. You can find out who your local councillors are, and how to contact them, by entering your post code here:
