Legalise pepper spray in the UK as a form of protection for the general public.
• create a licensing scheme for the sale of pepper spray to those with ID only.
• require pepper spray products to have a serial number which is logged with the ID of the purchaser on a database
• any misuses of the pepper spray (solid evidence provided) should be treated as a criminal offence.
Legalisation of pepper spray on ones person could prevent the amount of assaults and rapes that happen in the UK. When these horrific crimes happen, if the victim is lucky enough to survive they are left traumatised and sometimes left feeling like they wished that they hadn’t survived. By using pepper spray to distract the attacker this should help increase the chances of the victim being able to escape their attackers grip, in turn giving them a chance to flea to a safe place or to find help.
