Remove VAT from Domestic Gas and Electricity Bills
Given the imminent c50% rise in the energy price cap, and given we are no longer governed by EU law on VAT, please think (for once) of the most vulnerable in society and use the control you have (which we took back?!) to remove the 5% VAT that is currently applied to energy bills.
A 50% rise in the price cap, from c£1250 to c£1900 per year, will push those already struggling into a heartbreaking choice between heating and eating.
It was claimed during the Brexit campaign that “£2 billion tax cut in energy bills could be funded with some of the £8.5 billion a year saved from Britain's contributions to the EU”
And that, “When we vote Leave, we will be able to scrap this unfair and damaging tax [VAT]
Please keep your promise for once.
