Stop Age Discriminating Wages, One NMW for all ages.
The current system for National Minimum Wage (NMW) is split into age groups, however, I would like to see the age bar removed from NMW and for NMW to be fair for all ages. A set wage for all ages.
To understand the issue in April 2022 the NMW is expected to rise again for 23 and over to £9.50 per hour and for 18-20 year olds to 6.83 per hour. The difference in these wages for this age groups are as listed below
Per Hour - £2.67
Per Shift (10hr shift) - £26.70
Per Week (40hr week) - £106.80
Per Annum - £5,553.60
Those are staggering difference between 18 year olds and 23 year olds doing the same job. In order to level up, we must make wages fairer to all ages.
