Angling clubs should be allowed to stock fertile brown trout

Additional Information

RIVER WEAR ANGLING ASSOCIATION

Petitioning the Environment Agency to reverse the decision to only allow restocking with triploid brown trout in English and Welsh rivers from 2015.

NB:
1. Wild brown trout are declining in many rivers which once had good stocks.
2. This unpopular decision will further denude our rivers of brown trout.
3. Predation is out of hand on many rivers due to invasive species and fish eating birds such as goosanders.
4. Brown trout are the same species as sea-trout and a significant number migrate to sea. Fewer brown trout means fewer sea-trout.
5. Youngsters will not be tempted to fish our rivers for brown trout with such poor stocks.
6. We owe it to future generations to reverse this decline as habitat improvement alone will not repair the damage already done.

Let us be allowed to improve the future of brown trout fishing in England and Wales for future generations by supplementing and improving brown trout stocks.
