Petition Action

Rethink the rules for high income child benefit charge.

Petition Details

High income child benefit charge is penalising families with one 'high earner' rather than combine household. For example: families with both parents earning £49k each (£98k total household income) will have 100% of child benefit. Family with 1 earner 60k will receive £0 of child benefit.

Additional Information

Legislation is unfair as it is penalising hard working single earners and their family.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you are concerned about the Child Benefit High Income Charge, but we're not sure if you want this to be changed, and if so how, or reviewed.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
