Any MP crossing the floor must automatically trigger a by-election
MPs are voted in on their party’s manifesto commitments so therefore, if they leave that party and join another, they are no longer representative of the vote in that constituency, under a first past the post electoral system.
Political parties are, or should be, scrupulous in their selection of candidates for election. To circumvent this process makes a mockery of that process.
