Make access to strong encryption and encrypted services a human right.
Ensure that the privacy and security of British citizens are protected by making access to strong encryption and encrypted services a fundamental human right. There should be no limits to the strength of encryption accessible to all citizens, organisations and Government.
Strong encryption is essential to ensuring the security and privacy of our daily lives. Encryption for private citizens is vital for freedom of expression, creativity, identity protection, preventing blackmail any many other things we take for granted. Prohibiting strong encryption will make the internet much more dangerous to all citizens, including our children: https://sites.unicef.org/csr/files/UNICEF_Childrens_Online_Privacy_and_Freedom_of_Expression(1).pdf

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We understand you are concerned about citizens' access to encryption services, however it's not clear which such services you are concerned about, nor how such a right would be defined.
You could have a petition calling on the Government to not impose any legal obligations on social media companies which would compromise access to end-to-end encryption, if that is something you'd like to see happen.
