Publically address and correct clear untruths uttered in parliament / public.
If a member of parliament says something that is clearly untrue, and that has been shown to be the case, they should be held accountable and be made to retract their comment publically by the speaker, either at the time or within a few days.
If an untruth is not corrected in parliament then the public can be swayed into voting a particular way based on false information. This is not condusive to an honest democratic system and can lead to individuals voting against their own best interest or their political ideals unintentionally.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions must call for a specific action that the UK Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.
Decisions about correcting the record are a matter for individual MPs, not the Government or Parliament. As a result it is not possible for the Government or Parliament to take the action you have requested.
We can accept petitions calling for sanctions to be introduced for MPs who make false statements in Parliament, if that's something you'd like to happen.
