Welsh independence must be researched and debated
Self-determination is a right, and Scotland are finally being given the right this September.
In Wales, a lack of the same consideration to the issue of independence and resources such as the White Paper are barriers to individuals making reasoned decisions as to whether the would like to push for an independent Wales.
I and the undersigned propose that:
a) The matter of independence must be debated in the Welsh Assembly and the Houses of Parliament. The former debate should feed into the latter, as it is a Welsh issue, not a British one.
b) There needs to be research into the viability of independence. This should contain objective evidence, which will be useful to those who already have ideological standpoints which may or may not be supported by evidence.
I put this to the UK government, since the UK government is needed to make a referendum happen. In the interests of fairness and an informed Welsh population, these proposals need to happen as fully as possible.
