Government to review reform claim of 100% renewable energy sale to consumers.
Call on Government to review and reform the current wholesale electricity market, to increase transparency on energy companies claiming their energy is 100% renewable source when over 50% of the energy being produced is clearly hedged against fossil fuels.
Consumer spending needs to be a major consideration in the shift to a net zero carbon future. Over 70% of people believe that what they do, how they live and what they buy can have an affect on carbon reduction.
Subscribing to a 100% renewable energy tarriff the consumer expects that energy from a 100% renewable source. Thus increasing the pot of funding in renewable energy infrastructure such as wind, solar, geothermal, green hydrogen and reducing the energy from fossil fuels long term.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
In September 2021, the Government announced that the Competition and Markets Authority will carry out a full review of misleading green claims, both on and offline, at the start of 2022.
During that period, the Government published a "Green Claims Code" to help businesses comply with the law in any claims about their environmental impact.
You can find out about the CMA review and the Green Claims Code here: www.gov.uk/government/news/greenwashing-cma-puts-businesses-on-notice
