Hold MP’s accountable for making false statements or claims
Any MP making a false statement or claim should be required to make a full public retraction and a full public apology.
Many companies operate a ‘3 strikes and out’ rule. Implementing a similar rule for MP’s would discourage those perpetrators who repeatedly use this form of tactic.
Parliament needs to clean itself up and lead by example. Spreading falsehoods is simply not acceptable and sets an appalling example to the country.
MP’s should be treated no differently to Company Directors when it comes to the truth. There is no merit in providing MP’s protection by means of Parliamentary privilege when it comes to the truth. If MP’s are not honest they are deceiving the public whom they serve.
Some members of the public cannot determine what is true or false. They will continue to believe falsehoods unless there is a public retraction and apology.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
It's already the case that someone found to have knowingly mislead the House may have committed a contempt and be subject to sanctions including suspension. It is up to individual Members whether to apologise for any statements they make.
