Remove the requirement for Ghanaian students and workers to undertake IELTS

Petition Details

The government and Parliament should remove the requirement that Ghanaian (and other Majority English speaking Ex-British Colonies) Students and Workers have to pass IELTS to Level 7 just to compete with their UK rivals. Colonial governance. Ghana set on course to use and extend those systems. Education, Civics and Governance are conducted in British English. Children age (5+) taught to speak English fluently to a high standard. IELTS is an requirement on Ex colony workers thus representing unfairness. Post Brexit this oversight is damaging to Britains drive to recruit ancillary & Care staff. It's notable that where IELTS is exempted applicants must be majority English-speaking & have a qualification equivalent to a UK degree or higher.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you are concerned by requirements for some non-UK nationals to take an English Language Test, but we're not sure exactly what English Language requirements you want to be removed, or for who. The title of your petition refers to Ghanaians, but your petition goes on to refer to "other Majority English speaking Ex-British Colonies".

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
