Petition Action

Net Zero: Government to reconsider the current approach to achieving the goal.

Petition Details

We should continue to use our own supplies of gas, coal and oil until suitable, efficient alternatives are found. Alternatives should be researched for supplying new builds. Heat pump installations should be used only when suitable, not when impractical and costly.

Additional Information

Whilst we need to reduce our emissions, we are taking a hypocritical route by using fossil fuels that are not our own. We are increasing the cost and increasing the emissions by using sea and road transport to move the fuels, especially coal.

Replacing central heating systems and building wind farms might help towards reducing our emissions, but production of these items causes more emissions than we are saving. We should take into account that many of the redundant items cannot be recycled.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you're concerned about the Government's current approach to achieving Net Zero, but it's not clear if you want the Government to change its targets for achieving Net Zero, or just amend certain policies regarding domestic fossil fuel production and wind power, and incentives for heat pumps.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
