Replace the energy cap

Petition Details

I want the government or parliament to put a cap back on to energy providers so bills are capped.

Additional Information

I want the government to do this because the energy prices are now soaring, I am a single parent with 2 children, I have a professional career as a social worker and I fear the drastic increases will push me into poverty. For example my energy bills will rise by £747.56 per year from March. An extra £70+ each month.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The energy price cap is still in place, it has just increased to reflect increased prices of gas. The energy cap is set by Ofgem, which is operationally independent of the Government and Parliament.

You can find out more about the increase to the energy price cap here: www.ofgem.gov.uk/publications/price-cap-increase-ps693-april

We have published the following petition, which you might like to sign:

Subsidise energy prices to offset any increase in the energy price cap: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/606586
