Petition Action

Make users of the internet have an online passport linked to Government Gateway

Petition Details

Implement an imminent change to internet security. Make all users of social media have an online passport that links to our government gateway accounts so nobody can set up a fake profile.

Additional Information

This will most importantly protect our children from peadophiles but also prevent stalkers from utilising the internet to stalk their targets by hiding behind fake profiles.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We understand you're concerned about the use of anonymous accounts online, however it's not clear whether you want all internet users, which include children, to be required to hold a Government Gateway account in order to access any part of the internet, or for this to solely apply to social media sites.

You might like to sign this petition which calls for a similar action:

'Make verified ID a requirement for opening a social media account.': petition.parliament.uk/petitions/598012
