Petition Action

That football clubs should cease paying obscene wages and should reflect the average wage of the people that support them

Additional Information

I want the government to condemn the obscene salaries of premier league footballers (case in point is Wayne Rooney being paid £300,000 pw), to cap the incomes of football players, and to force football clubs to reflect the average yearly income of their supporters (i.e. season ticket hoders) in their employees salaries. I want the government to place an agreed equation for salaries (Say of average salary of their season ticket x 12 as a maximum or a scale based on which league they play)

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

This is a matter for the football authorities to deal with. However, the Government has been monitoring the FA's approach to football compliance/ownership etc, and is encouraging a more responsible approach to running clubs and the game as a whole.
