Petition Action

Help the hedgehogs by placing signs in rural areas to prevent further decline .

Petition Details

We need you to prevent further losses of this crucial species by placing speed limits or signage in rural areas, and by prohibiting the use of slug pellets , their biggest killer .

Additional Information

We have lost over half of our hedgehogs in the UK since the turn of the millennium , and those numbers are still falling , because of inadequate signage and use of deadly slug pellets . As a 13 year old nature activist , I wish for the appropriate actions to be taken to preserve this species ; and restore the ecological balance in rural areas . Hedgehogs are a natural pesticide themselves , so unnatural , deadly slug pellets ; usually ineffective , will no longer be needed.

The Government has announced that the outdoor use of metaldehyde, a pesticide used to control slugs on farms and in gardens, is set to be banned in Great Britain from the end of March 2022 in order to better protect wildlife and the environment.
