Petition Action

Amend policy to use UK fuels, including fracking, until alternatives are found.

Petition Details

Use our own supplies of gas, coal and oil until suitable, efficient alternatives are found.
Alternatives to be researched for supplying new builds.
Heat pump installations used only when suitable, not if impractical and costly.
Fracking rules revised to allow extraction of shale gas, as in USA.

Additional Information

Whilst we need to reduce our emissions, we are taking a hypocritical route by using fossil fuels that are not our own. We are increasing the cost and increasing the emissions by using sea and road transport to move the fuels, especially coal.
Replacing central heating systems and building wind farms might help towards reducing our emissions, but production of these items causes more emissions than we are saving. We should take into account that many of the redundant items cannot be recycled.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you want to see changes to energy policy, but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. For example, it's not clear if you want the Government to ban all imports of fossil fuels, or what if any changes you want to be made to grants for heat pumps.

We have published the following petitions, which you might like to sign:

Commit to UK natural gas and increase investment: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/608274

End the ban on fracking: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/608745

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
