UK Government to welcome refugees fleeing the conflict in Ukraine.
We call on the UK Government to introduce a legal route by which refugees fleeing the conflict in Ukraine can arrive and be welcomed into the UK including those who do not have close family members resident in the UK.
Russia invaded Ukraine on Thursday 24th February 2022. As of Sunday 27th February 2022, the UN estimated that 368,000 refugees had fled Ukraine (https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2022/02/26/europe-welcomes-refugees-ukraine-russia/)
Hundreds of thousands more people are expected to leave Ukraine in the coming days. The UK government has expressed its solidarity with the Ukrainian people but now needs to take direct action to welcome those who are fleeing conflict in Ukraine.
