Adopted people should be allowed to legally change their birth certificate.
When a child is adopted, the present practice is transfer all the childs rights to the adoptive parents. This includes NHS records and parents names on the birth certificate. This does not give a accurate picture of a child's history, but also does not allow people control of their own identity.
When a child is adopted, this often happens at a early age, where there not able to fully understand the consequences of the change in their identity. It isn't a personal decision. Buf also a change to the birth certificate does not reflect the truth about their history and can cause issues when they seek information about their birth family. For medical purpposes genetic information is also useful so issues like heart disease can be detected and treated sooner. Waiting could cause death.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We understand that you are concerned about the current rights of adopted children in relation to their birth certificates, but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. Your petition's title is about changing birth certificates, but it's not clear what changes you want adopted children to be able to make to their birth certificates.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
