Petition Action

No energy price cap rises before 2028 when government energy loans are repaid.

Petition Details

Given the cost of living crisis and the high energy bills, it is unfair to burden hardworking taxpayers with the worry of even more crippling costs in the future on top of their loan repayments.

Additional Information

The loan scheme does nothing to help people combat the crippling cost of living costs - it just puts people in debt until 2028. It is therefore right that the government should protect households from any future rises and not force this situation on workers again.

The energy cap is set by Ofgem, which is operationally independent of the Government and Parliament. You can find out more about the increase to the energy price cap here: www.ofgem.gov.uk/publications/price-cap-increase-ps693-april
