Request UK citizens turn down their thermostats by 2C to pressure Russia
Fund a public information campaign to drive a national effort to reduce energy consumption in the homes. The aim being to immediately reduce the need to purchase Russian gas and so cut off funding to the Russian state / war machine in Ukraine.
To support Ukraine and undermine the Russian war effort by cutting off an important source of foreign currency still being sent to Russia.
A small reduction in temperature settings in homes across the whole nation will mount up to big saving and everyone will feel that they are making a worthwhile contribution to a national effort.
A successful campaign will encourage other, even more exposed, European nations to follow the UK example.
Any energy surplus could be exported to help allies.
